
Celestino Obua, MD, MSc, PhD, Vice Chancellor of MUST and Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Prof. Obua is the Program Director of the MURTI (D43TW010128; PI: Obua), which, to date, has trained three cohorts of MUST junior faculty in conducting research in HIV/AIDS and its comorbidities. He is also the Chair of the International Advisory Committee for the MUREEP (R25TW010507; PI: Gertrude Kiwanuka).
He was a Co-Investigator MEPI-MESAU (R24TW008886; PI: Sewankambo), overseeing implementation of mentored research, and has been part of a research International Network on Rational Use of Drugs- Initiative on Adherence to Antiretrovirals INRUD-IAA (Sida-72300310 and WHO APW OD-AP-07-00516; PI: John Chalker). In this work, Prof. Obua has provided mentorship and leadership in research projects on HIV/AIDS, supervising 8 graduate students.
In addition, he has supervised/mentored 26 Masters and 8 PhDs students in other areas of study. As Principal Investigator of the TUITAH, Prof. Obua provides overall scientific, fiscal and administrative responsibility for conducting the program, meeting the terms and conditions of the award, and representing the program to sponsors.
